Campus Parking and Traffic During Construction

With major construction on campus, there will be periodic traffic and parking challenges. To help ease concerns, Chaminade Weekly, formerly Campus Report, will have up-to-date information about traffic and parking alerts.

Here is the latest update on parking and traffic situations to help you adjust to the changes:

1. Prepare to walk. There will be plenty of parking, but not necessarily close to buildings we need to be in. As some parking spaces are temporarily unavailable on Second and Third Roads, and behind Eiben Hall, the facilities staff has prepared the upper lots for more parking. There are about 500 spaces available throughout campus, including ADA, student, faculty and staff parking spaces.

2. Stay inside the lines. Many of the spaces have been changed and repainted to show blue for special parking, including ADA; yellow for staff and faculty; and white for students. Parking in upper lots above Brogan Hall and Kieffer Hall are striped white, but may be used by faculty and staff.

3. Take a new path. To help you get back and forth from upper campus to middle campus, there will be a new path from Third Road to Second Road running just Ewa of the Mamiya Theatre air conditioner units and out the driveway.

4. Change direction. The angle of the parking spaces in front of Freitas will be changed. The row near Freitas steps will be changed first, followed by the area near the flag pole.

5. Take the high road? Second Road will no longer be closed during the day. A sign will be posted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. that says “NO THROUGH TRAFFIC – FACULTY / STAFF PARKING ONLY.” University officials would prefer that you use Third Road rather than cut through Second Road to leave campus.

6. Observe new night rules. The “NO PARKING AROUND THE OVAL – MIDNIGHT TO 5 A.M.” rule is now in effect. Violators will be towed. This does not include the rest of the parking in front of Freitas Hall – only the row by the flagpole. To facilitate the new nighttime two-way traffic, the Marianist Center is allowing Chaminade to park its vans in the Mystical Rose Oratory parking lot. This frees up parking spaces for staff and faculty along the road next to the security building.
