Filipino food, theatre and talk ... Free this Tuesday!

The Chaminade Communication Department and the University of Hawaii Center for Biographical Research are co-sponsoring a theatre forum to explore the Kumu Kahua Theatre production of “Who the Fil-Am I: Or, Never Judge a Buk-Buk by its Cover-Cover.” Cast members will perform selected scenes in the CUH Black Box Theatre followed by discussion. The event will feature commentary by Eva Lindstrom from Chaminade’s Communication Department; Aurelio Agcaoili, UH professor of Philippine literature; and Troy Apostol, playwright and director. A reception with complimentary Filipino food will follow. There is no charge. The event begins at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21 in the Black Box Theatre.

There will be an AAP workshop on stress management & relief for students from 6-8 p.m. on Tue., Nov. 28, in the AAP Office. There will also be a student music recital at 7 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 28 in Ching Conference Center.

Christmas on Campus coming soon
Fri., Dec. 1, is Campus Ministry’s annual Christmas on Campus celebration. Chaminade will be hosting 12 families from Palolo Valley beginning at 5 p.m. in the Henry Hall courtyard. As in the past, any small toiletries such as the free with purchase items or samples from hotels, as well as any small new gift items, are welcome. The Campus Ministry team will put “goodie baskets” together for each family and appreciate any help you provide. You can also make a monetary donation to help with the cost of the event – checks should be made payable to Chaminade University. Chappell Peace Program presents essay contest
University students in the state of Hawaii are invited to submit essays titled, “Creating Peace across Boundaries.” The essay is a collaborative work by a team of two students, one male and one female, each of a different ethnic and religious background. The primary objective of this essay contest is to create a deeper understanding of peace across culture, gender, and religion. Essays are due to Poranee Natadecha-Sponsel by Jan. 2, 2007. The awards program will be on Feb. 3, 2007, at Ching Conference Center. The winning essay authors will be awarded:
- First Prize: $1,000 ($500 for each author)
- Second Prize: $700 ($350 for each author)
- Third Prize: $500 ($250 for each author)

ONLINE REGISTRATION now open for spring 2007 semester
Online registration for the Spring 2007 Day Undergraduate semester is scheduled for the following days:
- Sat., Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. for Seniors (90 credits completed or more)
- Thurs., Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. for Juniors (60 credits completed or more)
- Wed., Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. for all other students
The Spring Day 2007 class schedule is expected to be viewable online by Fri., Oct. 27. Paper versions of the Spring Day 2007 class schedule are expected to be available in Records and Academic Advising on Fri., Oct. 27.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR REGISTRATION
- Make sure your registration account is working. Start at this site: http://webportal.chaminade.edu/portal/main.html
- AFTER checking out the registration page, if you find that you are having problems logging in, e-mail services@chaminade.edu or call 735-4855 for assistance.
- Log in as a student
- Click on the tab for “online services”
- Click on the icon for “webadvisor”
- Under “registration”, click on “register for classes”
- Then click on “search and register for classes”
- Under “term” choose “Spring Day 2007”
- Select classes by subject, days and times, etc.
- Select the section you want by clicking in the box next to the class
- When you have your classes selected, you can click on “submit”
- Next to your selections, where it says “action,” use the drop down list to choose “register.”
- Click on submit
- You are registered!
- Print out a copy of your schedule to make sure your selections are properly represented.
- Check with the Business office if you have a balance of $500 or more. They can work with you to clear your balance and be allowed to register.
- The following students will have “Advising” Holds on their registration account:
- Students on Academic Probation
- Students who have completed 60 or more credits and have not officially declared a major.
- If you fit into either of these categories, you MUST meet with an academic adviser before registering.
- There are a variety of possible “holds” on your account that might prevent you from registering. Here is who you need to see to clear a hold:
- Advising Hold – Academic Advising and Retention Office, Freitas Hall 252
- Business Hold – Business Office, Freitas Hall 117
- Dean’s Hold – Dean of Students Office, Henry Hall 223
- Library Hold – Sullivan Library, Henry Hall 118
- Security Hold – Business Office, Freitas Hall 117
- Not sure what classes to take? If you have officially declared a major, you should meet with your faculty adviser before pre-registration. If you have not officially declared a major, you should meet with an adviser in Academic Advising and Retention, Freitas Hall Room 252.
- If you need to (or want to) meet with an adviser before registering, BE PREPARED for that meeting (see below).
HOW TO PREPARE FOR MEETING YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISER
- Start on this site: http://webportal.chaminade.edu/portal/main.html.
- From there, log in.
- Click on the tab for “online services”.
- Click on the icon for “webadvisor”.
- Under academic profile, click on “unofficial transcript”.
- Print out your complete unofficial transcript.
- Get a copy of your 4-year plan from academic advising and a “blank plan”
- What year did you start at Chaminade?
- What catalog are you using?
- If you entered Chaminade as a transfer student, do you have a copy of your original transfer evaluation?
- Compare your transcript to your 4-year plan.
- Check off all the classes you have completed.
- Don’t count any classes that you withdrew from or failed. Also, don’t count any “pre-requisites” if you received a D.
- Look at the classes you need to complete.
- Are some classes “spring only?”
- Do you need to complete some pre-requisites?
- Do you plan on doing some classes next summer?
- Look at the schedule for next semester.
- What is being offered that you need?
- What is not offered? When can you find that class?
- Do you need classes that have a time conflict?
- With the “blank plan” fill in the courses you need to complete from now until your anticipated graduation date.
- When do you want to graduate?
- Type or clearly write your plan.
- NOW you are ready to meet with your adviser to verify that you can complete your degree on schedule. If you have officially declared a major, meet with your faculty adviser. If not, meet with an adviser in Academic Advising.
