Chaminade’s 50th year draws to a close

Several hundred members of the Chaminade ‘ohana celebrated the close of the 50th Anniversary year on Sept. 16. Alumni, Marianists, faculty, staff, students and friends of Chaminade gathered for an intimate Mass held in the Mystical Rose Oratory, followed by a warm reception of fellowship.

It was an opportunity to thank University supporters and volunteers for their steady enthusiasm, which took Chaminade through an exciting year of special events and transforming milestones. Beginning with the Opening Liturgical Mass and the Bro. Bertram Photo Exhibit last September, the yearlong celebration continued with academic forums and special guest speakers, a Kaimuki community-wide party and an elegant gala at the Royal Hawaiian, punctuated throughout with community service.

It was an incredible year that heralded a new era of transformation for the University. A $50 million capital campaign, which is still in progress, enabled Chaminade to embark on its largest construction project in decades – The Sullivan Family Library and Information Resource Center.

Not-for-profit MBA program debuts at Sept. 27 lunch

As the business school celebrates its 30th year of providing a leading-edge Master of Business Administration program for professionals in Hawaii, it introduces its newest offering. The Not-for-Profit MBA program will be introduced at a lunch and panel discussion from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Wednesday at Ching Conference Center. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation begins at noon.

The Not-for-Profit MBA program will develop both the business skills and industry knowledge required for professionals in the not-for-profit arena to leverage resources and successfully meet service demands in an increasingly competitive environment.  Development of the program has been accomplished with the support and collaboration of Bank of Hawaii. The program offers convenient quarterly enrollment, evening classes and coursework on an accelerated schedule
Scott Schroeder, Dean of Professional Studies, is enthusiastic about the Not-for-Profit MBA and its unique place in Chaminade’s graduate program. “This is a year of milestones,” said Schroeder. “Chaminade is reaching the conclusion of its 50th anniversary as the MBA program celebrates its 30th year. The Not-for-Profit MBA is the first program in Hawai‘i to concentrate on the unique needs of the nonprofit world. It is breaking new ground in developing leaders who can harness their business skills to serve their community.”

The panel discussion will address The State of the Not-for-Profit Industry in Hawaii.  Panel participants include Robert Agres, Jr., Executive Director of The Hawaii Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development; John Flanagan, President and CEO of the Hawaii Community Services Council; and Kelvin Taketa, President and CEO of the Hawaii Community Foundation.

This special event is open to Chaminade students, faculty and staff.  Please RSVP as soon as possible by calling Ginger Miller at 440-4280 or e-mail gmiller@chaminade.edu. Please note that parking will be reserved for guests on Wednesday in the Mystical Rose Oratory lot and in front of Eiben.
