Homeland Security Leadership Development Track

Chaminade University of Honolulu in partnership with the Naval Postgraduate School is offering a Homeland Security Leadership Development (HSLD) track for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree. This track is designed for federal, state, county, and municipal government officials (civilian and military) with responsibilities in Homeland Security and Civil Defense, as well as for those individuals interested in pursuing occupations relating to homeland security management.

HSLD

The purpose of the HSLD program is to:

1. Prepare federal, state, county, and municipal leaders for future Homeland Security challenges.
2. Provide leaders with the specialized knowledge and skills required in their occupations related to Homeland Security.
3. Promote and build interagency cooperation at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels.

The Homeland Security Leadership Development track of the MSCJA degree requires forty-five (45) credit hours of course-work. The student is required to complete the seven core courses (21 credit hours) required of the MSCJA degree and the eight required HSLD courses (24 credit hours) listed below:

1. CJA 771 HSLD Introduction to Homeland Security
2. CJA 772 HSLD Technology for Homeland Security
3. CJA 773 HSLD Asymmetric Conflict and Homeland Security
4. CJA 774 HSLD Critical Infrastructure: Vulnerability Analysis and Protection
5. CJA 775 HSLD Strategic Planning and Budgeting for Homeland Security
6. CJA 776 HSLD The Law and Homeland Security: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
7. CJA 777 HSLD Intelligence for Homeland Security: Organizational and Policy Challenges
8. CJA 778 HSLD The Psychology of Fear Management and Terrorism

Homeland Security Leadership Development Certification Program

Those applicants not seeking a MSCJA degree, but who desire to earn certification in Homeland Security Leadership Development will complete only the eight required HSLD courses while complying with the program’s academic requirements. Upon successful completion of the eight HSLD courses, students will receive a Homeland Security Leadership Development certificate, signed by the MSCJA Program Director, the Director of Graduate Services, and the Provost of Chaminade University of Honolulu.

TIME LIMIT

The time limit to complete all MSCJA program requirements is five years, which commences the term that the student enters the program. If a student fails to complete all requirements in the allotted time of five years, that student will be subject to dismissal from the MSCJA program and will have to apply for readmission. If readmitted, the student will have to adhere to the current catalog and all degree requirements.
