Perhaps it takes a purer faith to praise God for unrealized blessings than for those we once enjoyed or those we enjoy now.

GIVING THANKS AS A COMMUNITY

Young men and women led Chaminade's special Thanksgiving Service yesterday, Wednesday, November 19, at noon. Songs that encouraged people to give thanks and to be lights in the dark world around them were reverently and cheerfully sung in the Mystical Rose Oratory. Campus classes had been canceled and offices closed for the occasion in hopes that Chaminade as a community could attend.

Prayers of thanks were given in Hawaiian, Guam/Saipan, Samoan, Tongan, Vietnamese, Spanish and English language by students, faculty and staff. Fr. Ken Templin encouraged people to give thanks despite the headlines of war, homelessness, sickness, and broken relationships. "Families and friends may be touched by darkness, but look around, we are not alone," he said. "We are 'ohana." He also reminded us to remember the needs of others and suggested we go home, take a look at our closets and pantries and see the abundance in there and then give some of it away, and he made us pause asking the question, "What are you most thankful for?"
