ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS WELCOMES CHAMINADE TO THEIR ANNUAL CONVENTION

On November 12-15, the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held its 41st annual convention at the Kauai Beach Resort. The Association invited Chaminade University to participate in this year's convention. President Sue Wesselkamper gave the keynote speech.

Chaminade University and the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs have moved forward on two cooperative projects: Na Ala Hele I Ke Ao - The Native Hawaiian Leadership program funded by a grant from the Administration for Native Americans, and the Kipuka project - funded by a gift from Housing and Urban Development.

At the conference, four Na Ala Hele I Ke Ao students from Chaminade were introduced. Also Ku'uleilani Reyes, Program Director, was introduced. In addition, Debbie Lowry, professor for Interior Design, brought two students with her to Kauai to demonstrate ideas for the Kipuka HUD project.

The Civic Clubs exist to encourage Hawaiians to take an active interest in the civic, economic, health and social welfare of our community; to support programs of benefit to the people of Hawaiian ancestry; to provide a forum for full discussion of all matters of public interest; and to honor, fulfill, protect, preserve and cherish all sources, customs, rights and records of the Native Hawaiian ancient traditions.

Associate Provost Henry Gomes, Br.Bernie Ploeger, President Sue Wesselkamper, and Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs President Charlie Rose.
