PRESIDENT'S PUBLIC POLICY FORUM: ADMIRAL "ZAP" ZLATOPER Every few months, President Sue Wesselkamper hosts a Public Policy Forum in which distinguished guests are invited to meet with Hawaii "opinion" leaders, and participate in a thoughtful discussion of major public policy issues. On Thursday, November 6, Admiral "Zap" Zlatoper, Trustee of the Campbell estate led an insightful discussion on The Changing Nature of Warfare and National Security: Implications for Business. "Opinion Leader" guests included people like Ted Liu, Director of DBEDT, Jim Tollefson President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, Robin Companiano CEO of AIG Insurance, Alan Uyeda CEO of First Insurance Company of Hawaii, Dwight Kealoha Director of Pauahi Leadership Institute of Kamehameha Schools, and about twenty others. Prior to joining the
Estate of James Campbell, Admiral Zlatoper served as Co-chairman
of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Sanchez Computer Associates
Inc., a banking software company rated 45th on the Forbes magazine
list of the 200 best small companies in the U.S. And before that
he was the Commanding Officer of the U.S Pacific Fleet with responsibility
for more than 190 ships, 1600 aircraft, and 200,000 personnel,
with an operating budget of $5 billion a year. Members
of the Hogan Advisory Board, Chaminade faculty, as well as Hogan
students Desiree Taimanglo and Petar Samac were able to attend
Admiral Zlatoper's presentation. He holds an honorary Doctorate
in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Masters
degrees from MIT and George Washington University, and is a member
of Chaminade's Board of Regents.
SOFT JAZZ AND LUNCHStudents gathered in the Henry Hall Courtyard yesterday to enjoy the jazz renditions of flautist Keith Marks. Aramark Campus Dining Services provided the reasonably priced buffet luncheon to a full tent of students, faculty and staff enjoying the festivities. Sponsored by Student Activities, the event was a crowd pleaser.

STUDY
ABROAD IN INDIA
This coming Tuesday, November 18th at 7:30pm in the Henry Hall AV Room, two of our students, Delihda Waltu and Melanie Jones, will present on their trip to India last summer. They will share about their study abroad experience through stories and photos and answer questions of students and faculty. Chaminade University will once again sponsor two students to India next summer. Students will travel with a group from our sister school, the University of Dayton. Scholarship money is available. Applications will be distributed on Tuesday evening and will also be available outside the Campus Ministry Office. Deadline for applying is Friday, January 16th. To be eligible for the trip, students must be full time, have completed one full year of academic study, be in good health and provide two letters of recommendation. NEW CHAMINADE THEATRE PRODUCTION OPENS NEXT WEEK Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, directed by Fr. Robert Bouffier, will be performed on November 20, 21, 22, and 23 in the Sacred Heart Little Theatre , located on the Sacred Heart Academy High School campus in its auditorium. TOURNAMENT I-Rec is having a Pool Tournament at Hawaiian Brian's this Friday, November 14, 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. .I-Rec is an organization that mixes regular with students with youth with disabilities for leisure time activities and service. Some Chaminade students participate as volunteers, many of them for service learning requirements. Interested Chaminade students can join in the fun playing pool with youth with disabilities. CENTRO HISPANO DE HAWAII PROGRAM OPPORTUNITITES Partnering with the National Council of La Raza, the Centro Hispano de Hawaii will sponsor a series of "Charlas" (Conversations) session with themes/topics of interest to youth between the ages of 13-19.
